Here’s how eFile works: Complete your return using any TurboTax Online tax software product and you'll have the option to eFile your return to the IRS for free. When you eFile, the IRS will confirm receipt by e-mail within 48 hours. If you choose to have your return direct deposited into your bank account, you'll receive your refund from the IRS in as few as 8 days.

TurboTax State Online tax software products are purchased separately from our federal online products. For each TurboTax State Online purchase, you can e-file up to three state returns for every federal return you e-file, at no additional charge.
Most states require that a federal return be e-filed in order to e-file a state return. There are five exceptions: California, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, and Minnesota. You can e-file these state returns without eFiling a federal return.
