Form 1099-R data isn't transferring to State return

This issue is often caused by incompletely filling out the 1099-R screens in the federal portion of the interview – especially the 2-digit state code from Box 11 of the 1099-R form.

You must enter all information (including applicable state information) from Form 1099-R in TurboTax to ensure it will transfer correctly to your state tax return. Entering partial or incomplete information on your federal return might result in transfer or calculation errors.

To return to the 1099-R portion of the federal interview:

  1. Click the Federal Taxes tab (Personal in the Home & Business version), then choose Income or Personal Income.
  2. Click the Specific Topics button.
  3. On the Your Income screen, click the Revisit button to the right of Retirement Distributions.
  4. Find the 1099-R distribution that is not transferring correctly, and choose Edit.
  5. Make the necessary changes to your 1099-R regarding your state (Boxes 10, 11, and 12). In particular, make sure to enter the 2-digit state code from Box 11.
  6. After the information has been entered, return to the State return by clicking the State Taxes tab.
